mudco was founded by Matt Iles, a plasterer with a passion for natural materials.

We care deeply about bringing sustainability into the every day of construction. As a small, yet ambitious company, we're dedicated to championing eco-friendly practices and minimising our carbon footprint, and yours, in the built environment.

We believe that clay and wood will help us achieve a greener, more resilient tomorrow.

[sɜr kyə lər ] : noun

A system where materials never become waste and nature is regenerated. In a circular economy, products and materials are kept in circulation through processes like maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling, and composting.

Our Ethos

Craft

Clay is shaped by hand, layer by layer, creating depth and softness you can’t replicate with synthetic finishes. It doesn’t peel or trap moisture, and if it’s damaged, it can be repaired — not replaced. Done well, it’s a surface that lasts and improves with age.

Care

Clay helps regulate humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture, reducing condensation and mould. It contains no VOCs, plastics, or synthetic binders, supporting cleaner air and a healthier indoor environment. It doesn’t just finish a space — it improves how it feels to live in.

Circular

Clay is a low-impact material that can be repaired, reused, and ultimately returned safely to the earth. Its thermal mass helps stabilise indoor temperatures, and its longevity reduces waste over time. It’s a finish designed to last — and to leave less behind.

Behind the sink, a wall with a burnt orange hue features a framed painting of a young girl in a white dress sitting outdoors. On the left side, a small shelf holds a decorative amber bottle and a lit candle. A round mirror with a wooden frame hangs on the wall, reflecting a lit ceiling lamp.
